If you want to forward a domain name that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is directed to. By doing this, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the website which you have created, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each Linux semi-dedicated hosting we offer, is extremely easy to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to pick the domain or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then input the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is quite simple and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record will be 100 % active and within a few hours it is going to propagate all over the world. If you are not sure what you have to do, we've prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located within that same section of Hepsia.
