The word “hosting” does not describe only one service, but a variety of services that provide a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, for example, are two individual services even though in the general case they come together, so a lot of people think of them as one single service. In fact, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that identifies where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the e-mails for the domain. For instance, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will then be directed to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every Linux cloud hosting which we offer, allows you to see, change and set up A and MX records for every domain name or subdomain inside your account. From the DNS Records section, you are going to be able to see a list of all hosts within the account in alphabetical order with their corresponding records, so any update is not going to take you more than a couple of clicks. Setting up new records is just as easy if, as an illustration, you would like to use the email services of another provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two. Also you can set the priority for each MX record by setting different latency. To put it differently, when your e-mails are delivered, the sending server will contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it is going to contact the next one. Through our advanced tool, you'll be able to handle the records of your domains and subdomains easily even when you have no previous experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, will enable you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any difficulties, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you complete control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
